What even was this year?
I met my Goodreads goal (I've read 248 books and counting -- I'm still reading as I write this post) but didn't meet my YA reading goal...
...and I barely ventured outside the world of BL, manga, and comics this year. So...this is going to be a very, very short post.
Best Fiction

I didn't read a lot of fiction this year, but this was hands-down my favorite. Dark and haunting, like an ancient fairy tale, this book just throws you into danger right away and leaves you breathless.
Best Manga

I stumbled on this one randomly and ended up relating to it so much in terms of the author's struggle with loneliness and mental illness. This had my heart.
Best BL

This series started out with a dubious proposition that could admittedly turn readers off, but if you keep going, this becomes one of the sweetest relationship stories. I can't remember if it was volume 4 or volume 5 that particularly had my heartstrings, but this series gets better with every release.
Best Comic

Yeah, this one's for middle-grade readers, I think, but as someone who lived in Japan and loved hearing stories of mythology there, this book is a real treat.
Best Horror

This was, in fact, the only horror I read this year, so it wins by default. I didn't give this as high a rating as I would've liked, but it's still imaginative and creepy.
Yes, that's it.
I wish I had more categories to put here, but I just didn't read as diversely as I normally do. I've had a lot of emotional ups and downs this year and whenever I can't concentrate, BL or comics or manga is where I end up. So...they took the crown this year!
I hope that next year I will dive into more books that represent different genres in addition to my comfort reads. We'll see!
