What is your favorite work of art? What do you love about it?

A painting of La Belle Dame Sans Merci by Frank Dicksee
Frank Bernard Dicksee, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

La Belle Dame sans Merci is one of my favorite poems. Written by John Keats, it has a fairy tale feel with dark, haunting, and lonely imagery. You can read the poem here.

It's the tale of a beautiful faery woman who calls out to a knight and seduces him, telling him he is her true love, only for him to take his last dream on the cold hillside. This scene depicted by Frank Dicksee shows the seduction at hand, as the knight is truly beguiled by the woman's beauty.

I think this is a gorgeous painting and I love the colors. It's one of my favorite interpretations of Keats' poem.
