Have you ever spoken up when you saw something going on that was wrong? Were you scared? What ended up happening?

There are several instances in my life where I did not speak up and have felt great shame over it. (So many). But one time in middle school I had a friend who would not stop talking about killing herself. She tried to play it off as a joke, but I found it really disturbing and something in my gut told me it was wrong. I was really scared, but I went to the guidance counselor and told the counselor what was going on. I know there was an intervention, but my friend never spoke to me again after that. So I don't know if what I did helped or not...I'd like to think so.
