Although this is my official author website, its primary function is that of a blog. I don't review books, but I love talking about them, so that makes me a book blogger! Get to know me a little more (and my blogging) with this tag! I got this from We Write at Dawn and I hope you enjoy reading it!
WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING AND WHY HAVE YOU KEPT BLOGGING?
I started blogging in 2010 when I was enrolled at Seton Hill University. We were required to blog about the books we read in our Readings in the Genre classes, and then my website grew from there. I wanted to have a steady online presence as an author, so I started writing about things that mattered to me and I tried to create an author brand online. However, in December 2021 I switched website providers after Blogger got hacked and deleted some of my posts. Little did I know, I couldn't import my ten+ years' worth of writings over here, so I lost everything anyway. However, I've enjoyed making a fresh start on this blog and I really like how it looks.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF BLOG POST TO WRITE?
In first place comes book tags, and in second place, animation reviews. I'd have animation reviews at number one, but those are incredibly detailed and time consuming to write, and it's been months since I've hammered one out because I'm a little burned out on them. They are, however, the top traffic drivers to this website. As far as book tags go, I have SO MUCH FUN filling them out, but hardly anybody reads them...like, single-digit views. So...apparently I like to write things people don't want to read. That doesn't bode well, does it?
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVORITE BLOG POSTS YOU HAVE WRITTEN?
Yakushima and Yanna - a post about how Yakushima's forests in Japan inspired one of the woods in Son of the Siren. It's filled with gorgeous photographs I took while hiking of one of the most mysterious, primordial forests I've ever been to.
Vengeance and Mercy: A Review of Dororo - I really enjoyed this series (I've since added it to my permanent collection) and I think this is a pretty detailed, balanced review.
Out of the Querying Trenches - this was a celebratory post of when I got my first agent, and I included the process and some stats to try to be helpful to people who were/are still on their querying journey.
Runner up: The entire Fairy Tale Childhood series I wrote (find them listed here). And the Small Joys Tag.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO TO RELAX?
Blogging actually helps me relax unless I'm writing at the last second to meet my Monday publication deadline. But I think it's really cathartic and fun to blog and I'm so proud of myself for posting every week.
When I'm not blogging, reading helps me relax, especially if it's BL. It's my go-to genre when things are rough or my concentration is off. I'd say it's my guilty pleasure but BL is getting more mainstream and I feel less and less guilty about reading it.
WHAT ARE THREE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?
My friends and family
Cats
That feeling I get when I'm in the writing groove and am having fun
WHAT ARE YOUR PROUDEST BLOGGING MOMENTS?
I'm really proud of my animation reviews, even though they take a lot out of me. And I guess my SEO. When the blog first got rebooted, I had single-digit views and nothing coming up on Google...now, for March, for example, my blog has 190,000 web impressions and 529 clicks. Someday I'd like to have 1,000 clicks but I think that won't happen until I start writing animation reviews again.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF BLOGGING?
Reading
Writing
Cosplay
Watching anime
DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY IN THREE WORDS?
Silly
Creative
Energetic (personality, not physically)
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE PET PEEVES?
People who are cruel or are bullies
Know-it-alls
People who push you or cut you in line
WHAT’S SOMETHING YOUR FOLLOWERS DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I haven't talked about it since rebooting the blog, but I play the harp! Not an orchestral one, but a Celtic Rosewood harp. I taught myself to play in college. I can't play anything difficult and I only play on three fingers per hand (which is actually wrong; you're not supposed to do that) but I can play some songs and it makes me happy.
