This tag originally came from YouTuber Jesse the Reader, but I found it on author Kate Willis's website and it looked like fun. Once again, I'm doing these kinds of posts to keep things simple as I work through teaching college and grading....the last time I was overwhelmed with teaching, I stopped blogging, so I'm trying to do some easy stuff to make sure I'm continuing my output. I hope you enjoy these tags as much as I love doing them!

What was your favorite picture book as a child?

There were a lot but the first one that popped in my head was the man who wore a billion hats piled on top of his head. I had to look this one up, but I found it: Caps for Sale.
What book series did you love as a child?

The Bad News Ballet series. My mom got them for me because I was a ballet dancer, so while that figures into the story quite a bit, there were a lot of things going on that represented struggles real girls faced. Plus, the books were hilarious.
What is the worst book you’ve read or tried to read?

It was a couple of years ago. The book had this very unauthentic voice that was pompous and overly whimsical. The story would begin, and then the narrator would do all of these asides or digressions that were really annoying. These books were pretty popular, with gorgeous covers, but I hated it within the first ten pages.
What is your favorite reading or book memory?

Hearing my brother on the couch laughing his butt off at the Bunnicula book series. I think he read almost all of them.
What is a book you loved as a movie?

I don't think any movie adaptation of a book can compare to this one. Peter Jackson's magnum opus! I saw all three films in the movie theater when they first came out, then we got the standard release DVDs, then the extended editions...I've watched the movies sporadically over the years and they still hold up.
What is a book you wish that they would make into a movie?

I'm choosing a series--The Folk of the Air. But I want it to look a lot like Jim Henson's Labyrinth, with creature designs by Brian Froud, and muppets for some of the non-humanlike beings in Holly Black's books.
What is a place you want to visit because of a book you’ve read?

I wouldn't mind visiting China because of Heaven Official's Blessing. There are historical things I've always wanted to see (like Qin Shi Huang's terra cotta soldiers), but I would love an experience where my hair, makeup, and clothing is done up in beautiful Chinese historical costume.
What is a nonfiction book you’d recommend?

I'd recommend I Don't Want to Die Poor: Essays by Michael Arceneaux. If you went to a college you technically couldn't afford because it was your dream, and you're saddled with student loans you can't afford to pay, then you'll sympathize with Arceneaux. The description of the book says "how can you not be terrified of the consequences of pursuing your dreams" when you don't have money? Arceneaux talks about how debt touches every facet of his life. He's a funny writer but I sort of found some of this harrowing because I could see myself a lot in his stories.
If you could hang out with an author for a day, who would it be and why?

I'd want to hang out with Margaret Rogerson. First, she lives in Ohio (as I do) so it might actually be possible to pull something like this off. Anyway, I want to pick her brain about how she can come up with brilliant, original ideas for all the standalone books she writes. I would also compliment the crap out of her. She's an inspiration to me.
