What stupid question have you heard someone ask (or asked yourself)?
I remember when I was at an early residency for Seton Hill University and I had to ask what dialogue tags were. I wasn't even smart enough to infer it. This is because in playwriting, you don't use them at all, and I was a playwright before coming to SHU, so I was completely clueless when it came to terminology with writing novels.
