SON OF THE SIREN and Tropes!

Well, I did it. I made a trope graphic for Son of the Siren.

I had some trepidation about it...if you read my article "I'm Torn on Tropes" you can see that I'm worried about what people think about tropes...do they consider them tools? Or are they just a gimmick that doesn't tell you anything about the plot?

People either enjoy "trope map" graphics or they dislike them...I've seen so many and they seem to be very, very popular on social media...

So I caved and made one. Here it is:

It's missing the squiggly arrows! I didn't know how to do that! But I think everything else is covered.

If you're having trouble reading the graphic, here's what it says:

  • Friends to lovers

  • Killer mermaids

  • Shapeshifting fox girl

  • Horny, treacherous fae

  • Only one bed

  • Curses upon curses

  • Sweet hero/feisty heroine

  • Clever riddles and bawdy songs

  • Lovely ballads

  • Devotion to family

You can see that some of those listed above aren't exactly tropes; more like things that are a part of the book. I had some trouble coming up with tropes, so I listed what else you can expect from the novel.

The only thing I forgot was "fairytale adaptation" but even so, feedback from beta readers told me it reads like it's its own story so it might not have been worth it to mention in this graphic.

Anyway, I've already shared this on social media and likely will again once it gets closer to release. I hope you found this to be fun!
